‘Paseo por la orillla’ was created in commission for a client in Middelaar (The Netherlands). During a presentation of a painting in the home of the clients, Eelko van Iersel and his clients agreed on a direction for color and size of the commissioned painting. Inspired by the home of his clients, the clients themselves and the colors they wished for, Eelko then worked for a number of months to create the painting layer by layer with sand and different paint types. These beautiful sand layers show fault lines and crackles, as earth tears in a dry riverbed.  
The end result shows a color scheme with tones in ochre, grey, black and white. A warm color combination inspired by the colors of the sunset, beaches with drawings of dark volcanic sand and the color of glowing lava. “It is beautiful to feel which energy is needed in a home and in the life of clients and for me to connect to the specific inspiration that is essential to create. I consider myself a happy person when I manage to turn the desire of my clients into a tangible painting”, thus the artist.  
The oil painting excites the imagination of the spectator, he or she recognizes images and memories come to life. This results in concrete representations in paintings that are originally non-figurative. The title ‘Paseo por la orillla’ is Spanish for ‘Walk along the coast line….the beach’.
